What each document has to show

Most refusals are not about eligibility. They are about a scan that cut off an edge or a photo taken against a cream wall. Here is the specification for each item.

Passport — first and last page

Colour scan of the first and last pages with all four corners visible. At least six months validity beyond your entry date and two blank pages.

Passport photograph

35mm × 45mm, plain white background, taken within the last three months, neutral expression, no spectacle glare.

Confirmed return ticket

A confirmed booking with a PNR, not a held reservation. The name must match the passport exactly.

Hotel booking or host details

A hotel booking covering every night of your stay, or your host’s ID and a short invitation letter.

Bank statement — last 6 months

Last six months, signed and stamped by the bank. Large deposits just before applying invite questions.

Income tax return

Acknowledgement for the last two assessment years where you file returns.

Employment or leave letter

On company letterhead, naming your travel dates, position and approved leave.

Travel insurance

Mandatory for Schengen: minimum €30,000 medical cover valid across the whole area for your full stay.

PAN card

Clear scan of both sides.
