Travellers plan backwards from the published processing time and get caught out. The consulate's clock only starts once your biometrics are done, and in peak months the wait for a biometrics slot can run longer than the decision itself.
Plan from the slot, not the decision Work backwards: 15–25 working days for the decision, plus however long the slot queue is when you file. In peak season, assume 45 to 60 days from the day your documents are complete.
Where to apply File with the country where you will spend the most nights. If your nights are split evenly across two countries, file with your first point of entry. Applying to the wrong mission is the single most common reason a Schengen file is rejected without being assessed.
The documents that actually get questioned Bank statements without a bank stamp and signature. Cover letters that contradict the flight dates. Insurance below €30,000 or not covering the whole stay. Leave letters that do not name the travel dates.
Get the file complete first, then book the slot. A slot you are not ready for is a slot you lose.
